Cox Cemetery is a small country cemetery a short distance from Bryan Rd. on Sandstone and off to the north about 150 yards on a farmer's entrance road. There are the remains of a trailer house and the graveyard begins just behind that concrete slab.

ADDINTIONAL INFORMATION:
The following was sent in by Yvette Thornton

Hi my name is Y. Thornton and I found some info on this cemetery back in 1992 when I went to the Grandfield Library in Tillman County, Oklahoma.

The information came from a book Bryan County, Oklahoma Cemeteries Volume 1 Pages 103 - 107 I have two sets of directions that I will send.

Cox Chapel Cemetery - this cemetery is located in Section 6, Township 6, Range 9 in northwest Bryan County or about two miles south of the Cobb Community

1st direction:

From Durant, go north on Washington Avenue until the road turns West (about 1 1/2 miles) go west one mile, turn north at Folsom Baptist Church. Go north one mile, turn right or east, go one-half mile. The cemetery is located behind a large two story home. You have to go thru their yard into the pasture.

This is a large cemetery, one of the oldest we found in this section of Bryan County. Over half the area are graves marked with sandstones, with no names or dates but was a well planed cemetery as the stones were stright rows and lots as the newer part with tombstones. This cemetery is on private properity and hasn't been maintained thru the years and is not fence. It is over grown with brush and trees. In very bad shape. There are several Indian tombs but without names. Some families have fenced their lots. From Helen Renegar, Wanda Shelton, Bub and Lucilla Brimage survey this cemetery.

My uncles that were listed in this cemetery are Arthur Dilbeck Oct 23, 1903 - April 3, 1923, died in a car accident and his brother was listed he died as an infant Floyed Dilbeck. The parents to these children were William Will Dilbeck and Lauranni Self. The other family member listed in this cemetery are Herbert Herman Arnott and his son Herbert Herman Arnott Jr. You have them listed and their family was from Prescott, Arkansas in Nevada County. Herbert Herman Arnott Sr. parents were Alexander "Alex" Arnott and Jessi Black Rodger Arnott and they are buried in Nevada County, Arkansas.

2nd direction - Gene Phillips 21 Apr 2003

Cox Chapel Cemetery - Located north of Durant. From Durant, go north on Washington Ave, to Fulsom Rd, turn left go about 1 mile to 4 way stop, church on left corner named Stone Creek Baptist ( however it has changed names 3 diefferent times) turn north (right) on Bryan go about 1 mile, first lane turns east go about 1/2 mile a small lane turns north beside a trailer, (House used for landmark before has burned down) small lane goes back in the woods about 1/4 mile, cemetery is on left side, it is large and unmaintained.

If you have family buried in the Cox Chapel Cemetery or can give directions to the cemetery that I can place on the website or have obits (with newspapers permission or an obit that you can write) or individual portraits or can write a short bio or have a history of the cemetery and would like to add your information to this website, contact the area coordinator for more information. You can also check out our How to Submit page.

NOTICE. If you submit information to this website and change your e-mail address please notify the area coordinator with the county/cemetery and new e-mail address so we can keep our pages as up to date as possible.
