Osie Akers Martin Obituary

Osie died at age 77 years, on Friday, May 12, 1989. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 16, 1989 in the Barrett Avenue Christian Church, Richmond, California. Burial was in Rolling Hills Memorial Park, Richmond, California.
Osie Akers was born to Claude and Mollie Pipkin Akers, March 11, 1912 near Vinson, Greer County, Oklahoma. The Akers family moved northwest of Sayre, Beckham County, Oklahoma in Osie's early age, where she grew up and attended New Liberty School.
Osie Akers and Marvin Hanely Martin were married November 25, 1934 by Rev. I. W. Beck, pastor of Methodist Episcopal Church, Erick, Beckham County, Oklahoma.
They established their home near Dempsey, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.
They lived in the Dempsey Community until 1942. For health reasons, because of Marin's eyes, they were forced to give up farming. They moved to Richmond, California. They lived in their home at 2638 Tulare Avenue, Richmond, California for 44 years.
Osie and Marvin celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary, November 25, 1985 with their children and friends.
Osie was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson; one sister; and one brother, all of California.
Osie Akers Martin is survived by five children, Marin Wayne Martin of Evanston, Illinois; Osie Lavern Montgomery of Union City, California; Steve Jerry Martin of Benicia, California; Richard Jack Martin of Livermore, California; Margret Lucille Midram of Benicia, California; one sister, Juanita Perrin of Fresno, California; three sisters-in-law, Crystal Martin of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Dorothy Martin Johnson of Sweetwater, Oklahoma; Faye Martin Graham of Sayre, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who mourn her passing.

Marvin H. Martin was a retired Financial Secretary and Treasurer of the Carpenter's Union Local #642 of El Sobrante, California. He served twelve years as secretary of his union. He was a carpenter in California for many years.
Marvin H. Martin died of a massive heart attack Wednesday, January 22, 1986 in a San Pablo, California hospital at the age of 76 years. Funeral services were held by Rev. Winton Henry of Barrett Avenue Christian Church, Richmond, California where Marvin was a member and a deacon of Barrett Avenue Christina Church. Burial was in Rolling Hills Memorial Park, Richmond, California.
