John Powell age 70 of Noble, passed away on May 27, 2026 in Norman, OK. Johnnie Wayne Powell was born on August 18, 1955 in Shawnee, OK to Jimmie Wayne Powell and Dorothy Mae Powell (McCartney). He grew up in Altus and attended school there, graduating with the Bulldog class of 1973. While in high school, he was a three time state wrestling champ, which earned him a scholarship to wrestle at OSU, and later UCO where he helped lead the team to a national title. Most of his working years were spent at AutoZone stores in the Norman area where he worked in sales for over twenty six years. As a young man he met Tracy Leeper, they began working on a neighborhood project together and quickly fell in love. They built a wonderful life together and were wed on March 28, 2000. John loved the outdoors, he enjoyed growing plants, watching hummingbirds, and deer hunting each fall. He was a music enthusiast and was always the DJ at any function he attended, he wasn't just the life of the party- he was the entertainment. John had a great sense of humor and an infections laugh to kept everyone around him smiling. He was a kind and caring man who never met a stranger, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John was preceded in death by his parents Jimmie and Dorothy Powell, his daughter Charlotte Webb, and grand daughter Zoe Webb.
He is survived by his wife Tracy Powell of the home. His children Joshua Castleberry of Konawa, Sean Powell of Oklahoma City, Jeannine Leeper of Oklahoma City, and Hanna Prather and husband Kristian of Sulphur. His brothers Kenny Powell and wife Lisa of Choctaw, and Ricky Powell and wife Elaine of Pink. His niece Jennifer Hughes, and nephews Carson Powell of Midwest City, and Jason Powell and wife Hannah of Newalla. He also leaves behind several great nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Monday June 1, 2026 at Little's Chapel, Wilson-Little Purcell, with burial to follow at Brown Cemetery in Tecumseh, OK.
