Lt. Col. Josh Michael Soblaskey, Ret., age 63, of Madison, Alabama, died at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on July 26, 2023. He was born in St. Ignace on December 30, 1959, to Alfred Louis and Sherrill Jane (McKenzie) Soblaskey. Josh grew up in St. Ignace and graduated from LaSalle High School in 1978. He attended Lake Superior State University in 1982, graduating with a bachelor’s in criminal justice. He went into the Air Force in 1985 and retired in 2015 after thirty years of faithful dedication to the service. He married Tanya Henley in 1983 in McAlester, Oklahoma, and started their family. After nearly 39 loving years together, Tanya passed away in 2022. Josh was a member of the Gooch Lane Church of Christ in Huntsville and the Church of Christ in Cedarville, Michigan. Josh loved working on cars, especially his Mustang. He was a consummate handyman with an uncanny ability to repair almost anything. He was a kind-hearted person, ready to drop everything to help someone in need. He loved his role as “Optimus” to his two young granddaughters. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Josh is survived by his daughter, Kaitlyn (Brendan) Sink; sons, Tyler (Jackie) Soblaskey and Marty (Jessica) Soblaskey; grandchildren, Lily Soblaskey and Sydney Soblaskey; mother, Sherrill Soblaskey; sister, Jeni Therrian; brothers, Jon (Jackie) Soblaskey, Jason (Shannon) Soblaskey, and Jamin (Stephanie) Soblaskey; and sister-in-law, Pam Henley. Josh was preceded in death by his wife, Tanya Henley Soblaskey; father, Alfred; mother-in-law, Joyce Henley; father-in-law, Leroy Henley; and brother-in-law, Craig Therrian. The family will welcome friends for a visitation at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home, 1410 E. Carl Albert Pkwy, McAlester, Oklahoma 74501, on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. A memorial service and burial with military honors will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
