Bette Mae Smith, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2023, in McAlester, Oklahoma. A viewing and visitation will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home. Family will greet friends Sunday, August 13, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home. At Bette's request, there will be no funeral service. She will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at First Baptist Church of McAlester. Bette was born on November 11, 1924 in Bedford, Ohio. Bette lived a life filled with love, resilience, and dedication to her family and work. Bette moved to Oklahoma in 1948, eventually meeting the love of her life, Jack William Smith. They married on June 28, 1975 in Atoka, Oklahoma, and together they built a life in Krebs. Jack and Bette enjoyed traveling to see family, and Bette enjoyed taking pictures of everything on each trip and after. Bette also enjoyed "watching the radio," she made many friends at the KNED radio station, and she enjoyed walking at Walmart, where she also made many friends. Bette worked for many years at Komar Manufacturing, where she was known for her hard work, dedication, and friendly demeanor. She is survived by daughters: Marilyn Gann of Krebs and Lawanna Lalli of Edmond; son: Jackie Smith and wife Dominie of Krebs; grandchildren: Todd Gann and wife Amy of Broken Arrow, Amber Gann of Krebs, Bryce Williams and wife Holly of Oklahoma City, Devin Lalli and his wife Tori of Norman, Anthony Lalli of Edmond, and Bret Lalli and wife Rachel of McAlester; great-grandchildren: Peyton Domeier and husband Reece, Riley Gann, Braxton Troxell, Ilissa Lalli, Adrian Troxell, Emersyn Lalli, and Channing Mae Lalli and great-great-grandson Jack Domeier, all of whom brought her immense joy in her later years. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Casey, of Florida. Bette was preceded in death by her husband: Jack William Smith, in 2006. Her sons: Dennis Lalli, Flint Lalli, and Lance Lalli; her son-in-law Wayne Gann; her parents: Carroll and Marie Harville; her sisters: Judith Harville, Lucille Reinhart, Grace Simonoski, and Joyce Fortney, and her brother Glen. Despite these losses, Bette remained a beacon of strength and positivity for her family, always reminding them to cherish their time with their loved ones. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
