Linda "Cookie" F. (Curliss) Sherrill, a loving, selfless, and gentle soul, passed away peacefully at her home in McAlester, Oklahoma, on August 4, 2023, at the age of 81. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023, at Frink Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Monty Thompson. Linda will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester and her grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Born on August 25, 1941, in Hartshorne, Oklahoma, to Nelson and Leona (Key) Curliss. Linda's early years were spent in Hartshorne, where she graduated from Hartshorne High School in 1959. It was there that she met her grade school sweetheart, Kenneth Wayne Sherrill, whom she married on June 4, 1961 and they were married for 60 years until his death in 2021. Linda furthered her education by obtaining an associate degree from Eastern Oklahoma State College at the age 60. She worked as an administrative secretary for McAlester Army Ammunition Plant and McAlester Regional Hospital. In 1974, Linda and Kenny purchased the McAlester Union Stockyards, which they owned and operated until they passed it on to their children in 2004.Known affectionately as "Nana," Linda was a devoted homemaker who loved to cook, particularly known for her homemade apple pies. Linda loved spending time with her grand-children and they were her pride and joy. She was a member of Frink Baptist Church, where her faith and family were central to her life. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Leona Curliss; her husband, Kenneth "Kenny" Wayne Sherrill; son, Mark Brent Sherrill; brothers, Leonard Curliss, Jim Curliss, Benny Curliss; and sisters, Leota Jeffers, Greta Stephenson, and Mary Moody. She is survived by her daughters, Julie Grant and husband Lindsey, Laura Sherrill; daughter-in-law, Twylia Sherrill; grandchildren, Coleen Logan and husband Link, Megan Fassino and husband, Tyler, Luke Sherrill, Kate Buckner and husband, Justin, Seth Grant, and Lane Grant and wife, Cami; great-grandchildren, Violet, Olivia, Beau, Cayden, Ava, Gentry, Hazel, and Collins; sister, Gloria Marzuola; and sister-in-law, Jane Sherrill. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends who will miss her dearly. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Linda's caregivers, Shelly Diehl, Ova Morris, Alisa Weeks, and Vickie Moore, for their kindness, loving care, and friendship. Linda's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and selflessness. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
