Janie Charlene Painter, 92, a long-time resident of McAlester, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025 in Pryor. Viewing will be Thursday evening until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are Friday, January 17, at 10:00 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester, with Pastor Terren Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Janie Charlene Painter was born on December 3, 1932 in McAlester to Charles Edward and Ona Victoria (Mullins) Thomas. She married Leroy Painter on December 3, 1949. She retired form working at the pharmacies of Homeland Groceries. She enjoyed many organizations, such as AARP and Fortnightly Club. Her favorite thing, though, was watching her grandkids and great grandkids in their sports activities. She was a member of the Life Church. Charlene is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Gail Painter; her daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Jim Jenson, and Lisa and Larry Winters; grandchildren, Jennifer Bryant and Quinton, Roy Winters and Amanda, Justin Hall and Heather, Tarron Duvall and Justin, and Skyler Streater and Tanner. She also has 14 great grandchildren who she loved dearly. And nieces and nephews include Vickie Cummings, Sharon Naush, Kay Jones, and Charlie Naush and families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; her parents; and a sister, Cecil Thomas Barry.
