Catherine Yvonne Nelms, 88, of Krebs, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 at McAlester Reginal Health Center. The family will welcome friends for viewing and visitation on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services are set for Thursday, February 29, at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Thomas Gragg officiating. Pallbearers are Keaton Nelms, Spencer Nelms, Ronnie Gragg, Steve Gragg, Taylor Barr, and Garrett Duty. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Morris, Gary Ferguson, Ronald Gragg, Robert Florenzano, Randy Harmon, and all the kids that were touched by Catherine through the skating rinks. Catherine Nelms was born on July 26, 1935 in Krebs to Arch Verner and Ruby (Davis) (Verner) Carruth. She grew up in Krebs and has lived there all her life. She attended Krebs School through the 8th grade then went to McAlester schools, graduating from McAlester High School in 1953. Catherine and David Nelms were married on Sept. 3, 1955 and lived in Krebs their entire married life. Catherine owned and operated skating rinks, (3 different locations), in Krebs and McAlester, and then owned and operated an antique store in Savanna for many years. She and David loved going antiquing to find things for the store. Catherine also enjoyed working on genealogy and traced her family roots back several generations. She was a long-time member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Krebs. Catherine is survived by 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Chuck and Sherri Nelms, and Scott Nelms; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Tom King; grandchildren, Whitney Duty and husband Garrett, Caity Barr and husband Taylor, Keaton Nelms and wife Katelyn, Spencer Nelms, Catie Beth King, Audrey Nelms, Brooklyn Nelms, Scotti Grace Nelms; and great grandchildren, Emma and Karver Barr, Brooks, Eleanor, and Owen Duty, Pike and Edly Nelms, and Legend Shelton. She was preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents; a brother, Jack Scales; and a sister, Capitolla “Sissy” Goodspeed.
