Rev. James "Jim" Billy Montgomery, 98 of McAlester died Wednesday, April 30, 2025 in McAlester. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Rev. Chip Lott. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Robert B. Thomas, VFW Post #1098. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Dale Montgomery, Kolten Montgomery, Dakota Montgomery, Blake Dusenberry, Bryce Dusenberry, Brandon Dusenberry and Weston Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Semtner and Wes Miller. Jim was born to Charles W. and Cordelia (Gibson) Montgomery on May 17, 1926, in Checotah, Oklahoma. During World War II, Jim served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He attended and graduated from Okmulgee Tech with a degree in drafting. He married Billie Maxine Sweet December 2, 1950, in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Jim retired from the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant where he worked in special weapons. He went on to work for Oklahoma Aerotronics in Hartshorne. Jim was a man of faith. He started Cornerstone Baptist Church in Hartshorne and pastored there for several years. He pastored at Blanco Baptist Church and worked for the Pittsburg Baptist Association filling in at area Association churches when needed. He and wife, Billie also served in missions, traveling the United States until retirement. After retirement he joined and become an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in McAlester. Jim had an inquisitive mind and loved electronics and computers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. and Cordelia Montgomery; daughter, Sharon Marie Montgomery; wife Billie M. Montgomery; sister, Delpha and brother, Charles, Jr. Jim is survived by sons, Jimmy Montgomery, Jr. and wife, Cindy of McAlester, Don Montgomery and wife, Samantha of Hugo; daughter, Joy Semtner and husband, Richard of Hartshorne; grandchildren, Shelly Davy and husband, Steve, Angela Voeller and husband, Matt, Heather Johnson and husband, Joseph, Jimmy Dale Montgomery and wife, Renee, Jessica Kaye Miller and husband, Wes, Jordan White; numerous grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; other family members and friends.
