Les "Buster" Dale King

Les Dale "Buster" King, 83, of Krebs, died peacefully after a brief illness on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at his residence surrounded by family. The family will greet friends and visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Bishop Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Rev. J.T. Carnell. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Robert B. Thomas VFW Post #1098. Pallbearers will be Larry Williams, Gerald Goddard, Jody Goddard, Jasper Jones, Cassie Cole, and Michael Cole. Honorary pallbearers will be Jenny Williams, Gianah Williams, and Leon Moore. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital. Les was born to William David and Ellen Inez (Minor) King on May 10, 1938 in Glendale, Arizona. He attended school at Krebs and graduated from McAlester High School. Les served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1959. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 and retired in 1981. Les owned and operated Earth and Stone, hauling dirt, stone, and landscaping in McAlester. Les enjoyed traveling, riding motorcycles, and operating amateur radio. He enjoyed playing cards and dominoes at the Krebs Senior Citizens Center. Les especially enjoyed game nights with the family and attending his grandchildren's events and functions. His youngest granddaughter gave him the name "Buster" which became a household name. He affectionately gave his granddaughters a nickname of his own. Cassie was his "Big Monkey" and Gianah was his "Little Monkey,” and they always will be. He was an active supporter of the Disabled American Veterans and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital organizations. Les was preceded in death by his parents: William and Ellen King; first wife: Muriel (Barnes) King; daughter: Teresa Hicks-Wilson; brother: Craig Allen King; and brother-in-law: Edwin "Dike" Davidson, Jr. He is survived by his wife: Geri King of the home; stepchildren: Jenny Williams and husband, Larry of Krebs, Tracey Cole of Connecticut, Michael Cole and wife, Mary of McAlester; grandchildren: Gianah Williams, Cassie Cole, Kalsey Cole, and James Cole; brother: Rudolph King of Indianola; sisters: Wilma Davidson of Bugtussle, and Sue Goddard of Wakita; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends: Dayle Gilmore, Don and Betty Hall; and other friends. The family would like to thank Hospice of McAlester for their tenderness and sensitive care they showed Les and his family in his final days.
