Dorothy Jones, 84, of McAlester, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2026, in McAlester. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory in McAlester. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Bishop Chapel of Memories, officiated by Rev. Bobby Wingo. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester. Pallbearers will be Keith Bowman, Trey Cossey, Drake Thorn, Terry James, Ronny Jones, and John Thorn. Dorothy was born on July 13, 1941, in Cumby, Texas, to Samuel H. and Lillian (Green) Walls. She was raised and attended school in Texas, where she developed the strong faith and caring spirit that would guide her throughout her life. On December 20, 1958, Dorothy married the love of her life, Gary Jones, in Irving, Texas. Together they shared more than 67 years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and service to others. Dorothy worked for a time at Poteau Hospital and also devoted many hours to hospital volunteer work, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. A devoted Christian woman, she faithfully served in several churches through the years and was a member of First Assembly of God Church in McAlester. Dorothy enjoyed bowling, shopping, and traveling, especially the many trips she took to Branson with family. She also loved spending time playing board games, especially Wahoo, card games, and dominos, creating countless treasured memories filled with laughter and togetherness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Lillian Walls; brothers, Louie Walls and T.C. Walls; sister, Tina Eidson; granddaughter, Kelsey Bowman; brothers-in-law, James W. Jones and Leslie Jones; and sister-in-law, Christine Jones. Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband, Gary Jones, of the home; daughters, Pam Barnett and husband Larry, Sharla Thorn and husband John, and Sherri Jones-Cox and husband, Mark; son, Kevin Jones and wife Dawn; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; brother, Sam Walls and wife Lynn; brothers-in-law, Norman Jones and wife Dianne and Ronny Jones and wife Stacey; sisters-in-law, Joyce Mitchell and husband Phil, Carol Newton, Judy Neu and husband Doug, and Shirley Jones; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends. Dorothy will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever treasured by all who knew and loved her.
