Harold N. Hearod, 80 of McAlester died Monday, May 19, 2025, at his residence in his wife's loving arms. The family will greet friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 23., 2025 at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Rev. Mike Ross and Mr. Oben Weeks. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, McAlester. The pallbearers will be Billy Keith Ketchum, Kevin Hearod, Billy Hearod, Monty Hearod, Danny Ketchum and Ryan Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Brown, David Bratcher, Charlie Groves, Roy Engleman, Kenny Hall, Ken Doyle, Ted Spears, Oben Weeks, Bryan Hope, Hershel Rackley and Bart Brinlee. Harold was born on September 2, 1944, to Harold and Rachel Lee (Edmonds) Hearod in Canadian. He graduated from Crowder High School in 1962. Harold served in the U.S. Army National Guard for several years. He married Pamela Thomas on May 22, 1986, at Indianola First Baptist Church, to this union, daughter, Kelsey Renea was born. He held various jobs, including work on a poultry farm, Oklahoma Aerotronics in Hartshorne, and doing high-line work across the state of Louisiana. He later settled into a long-term role as a telephone mechanic at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, where he worked for over 30 years before retiring in 2004. Harold was a farmer and rancher and loved horses and cattle and bailed hay for most of his life. He embraced the cowboy lifestyle. Starting at the age of four, he had Kelsey on her first horse Scamper running barrels and poles. Team roping took him to many rodeo arenas competing with his friends. He enjoyed watching baseball, basketball and rodeos. His children and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was a member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized in Wildhorse Creek. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Rachel Hearod; sister, Dorothy Ketchum; brother, Bill Hearod, Sr. and father-in-law, Buddy Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Pam Hearod of the home; daughters, Kelsey Hearod, Cherron Oakley and husband, Rich, Crysti York-Hearod; grandchildren, Kyah Hearod, Anna Marie Oakley, Will Oakley, Nick York and Jake York; sisters, Minnie Crenshaw, Brinda Grigsby and husband, Dewey, JoAnn Whitfield and husband, Dennis; brother-in-law, Don Ketchum and wife, Alice; sister-in-law, Carolyn Hearod; mother-in-law, Barbara Thomas numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
