Louise Georgette "L.G." Green, 105, formerly of McAlester, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Louise was born the eldest of 10 children on December 16, 1919 in Ada, Oklahoma to Dewit Noels and Amanda (Harland) Noels. She married Mayfield Green in the late 1940s and became the mother of 3 children. Mrs. Green was a beloved and foundational figure in our community. She was the very first teacher for many of our children, serving as one of the pioneering Head Start educators in both the Krebs, Oklahoma and the McAlester Public Schools system. Later, in her career, she continued her service to others by working as a therapist at the Carl Albert Mental Health Center. Her journey in education began at L'Ouverture, where she graduated High School as Salutatorian for her class of 1940. She went on to pursue higher education at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Ada, Oklahoma and later at Southeastern State University in Durant, Oklahoma, where she received a Bachelor of Science and Master's Degree in Education. Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Green was a dedicated community leader. She served as President of the Ladies' American Legion Post 250, President of the Ada Lois Sipuel Federated Women's Club and President of the Southern Region Federated Club for Colored Women. She was also a proud member of the L'Ouverture Alumni Association, the NAACP, and Bee Bee Chapel Methodist Church. She had a deep passion for learning, teaching, and reading. Cooking brought her joy, especially when preparing her signature Red Velvet Cake. She also found fulfillment in gardening and sewing. She took a special interest in fashion and loved to style her hats and handbags. And we would be remiss if we didn't mention one of the most charming things about her-Mrs. Green always wore the prettiest high heel shoes, which all the ladies admired and adored. She was also known to "cut a rug" and enjoyed spending time with all of her family. Mrs. Green's legacy lives on through her family. She was the devoted mother of three children, and the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. She is survived by two children: Jimmy Green and wife, Gloria Jean of McAlester, and Iris Whetstone of Tulsa; grandchildren: Terry (Sherry), Marcella, Tamela (Brian), Denise, Kendra, Kim, Chris (Leann), Gerald, David (Shantal), Nakia, Kendrick (Candace), and Kenneth; and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. Preceding Mrs. Green in death, is her husband, Mayfield Green; son, Gerald Wayne Green, great grandson, Brian Covina; parents: Dewit and Amanda Noels; and brothers and sisters: Charley Noels, Ida V. (Noels) Brown, Lillie B. (Noels) Walker, Bessie June (Noels) Dunn, Elizabeth Noels, Elijah Noels, Eula Faye (Noels) Harris, Yvonne Noels, and DeAudrey Noels. Thank you, Mrs. Green, for the wisdom your shared, the lives you touched, and the elegance you brought into every room. A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Reverend Anthony Washington officiating. The burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
