Violet Maxine (McAdoo) Beshear-Gassaway, 91, of Crowder, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023 in McAlester. The family will welcome friends for viewing and visitation on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be Friday, May 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery. Violet Gassaway was born on March 28, 1932 in Hanna, Okla. to John H. McAdoo and Nova (Glover) McAdoo. Through the years she had lived in other places, but Crowder was always her home. She was married to Arnold Leo Beshear, who preceded her in death, then later married Earle Gassaway, who also preceded her in death. Violet liked to stay busy. She had worked at GM in Ada and was a seamstress at Komar’s in McAlester for several years, as well as helping run the family gas stations/convenience stores in Canadian and Muskogee. At home she was an accomplished quilter and made sure family members had what they needed. She also enjoyed camping and traveling. Violet is survived by her grandchildren, Arnie Beshear and Tonyia, Michelle Beshear and Mark Cunningham, Wayne Beshear and Tysha, Angella Lynch and David, Samantha West and Andy, Robert (Beshear) Gary, and Kelley Harmon; numerous great grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Garrett and James, and Bernice England; step-children, Barbara Sepe and Bill, Carol Bowman, and Billy Ray Gassaway; and sisters-in-law, Nema McAdoo and Anna McAdoo. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; sons, Sid Beshear and Arnold Lee Beahear; a grandson, John Beshear; and brothers, Jerry, V. C., and Jay McAdoo.
