Irvin Earl (Buck) Conner, 87, of McAlester, died Friday, February 13, 2015 at McAlester Regional Health Center. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Bishop Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 17 at the First Presbyterian Church of McAlester with Honorable Oklahoma Governor George Nigh and Michael Harris officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Born November 19, 1927 in Pawhuska to Richard Bland Conner, Sr. and Flora Belle Shelton Conner, Buck moved to McAlester in 1941 with his parents and graduated from McAlester High School in the class of 1945. Buck then joined the United States Army and served his active duty from January of 1946 until July of 1947 with Counter Intelligence at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. He continued his reserve duty as Commanding Officer with Headquarter Battery 360th Field Artillery Battalion of the 95th Division, and Commanding Officer of Headquarter Company, 2nd Battalion 377 Infantry of the 95th Division. He was an instructor for SAT-VSAR schools, Command and General Staff School at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. He retired from the U.S. Army on August 31, 1970 at the rank of Major. Buck returned to McAlester from active duty and married Mittibelle Yarborough on July 19, 1947 and she preceded him in death on September 12, 1995. He began his working career with the C.R. Anthony Company and then Public Service Company of Oklahoma before beginning his banking career with The National Bank of McAlester (now known as the Bank, NA). He retired from the Bank, N.A. on December 31, 1989 after 35 years of service, where he also served as a director and as Vice President. He was also involved in the ownership of The Yellow Gazebo in McAlester for many years. He married Kathryn Beshear Baldwin on December 3, 2005 in McAlester. Buck was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of McAlester for over 50 years and served many years as Deacon and ruling Elder. He served as treasurer and past president of the McAlester Lions Club and served on numerous committees, chairman and board member of the McAlester Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Fin & Feather Club serving as president, and a longtime member and past board member of the McAlester Country Club. Buck was a 50 year Master Mason at the South McAlester Lodge #96 and a 33rd degree member of the McAlester Scottish Rite, a member of the National Sojourner Indian Chapter # 405, Hero of 76, Saint Lakes Conclave Red Cross of Constantine and past Sovereign Treasurer. He was a member of the York Rite Bodies, the Pittsburg County Shriners, and Bedouin Temple of the Mystic Shrine; a member of the Order of Eastern Star, 50 year member and charter member of the Knights of Saint Andrew, honorary member of Daniel Harley Order of DeMolay, Royal Order of Scotland, and Emeritus Personal Representative of S.G.I.G. of Oklahoma. He was an honorary member of the Future Farmers of America, and member of the 4-H Club of America, receiving the Meritorious Service Award. Buck is survived by his wife, Kathryn Baldwin Conner of the home and numerous other loving family members and friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents: Richard B., Sr. and Flora Conner, 2 brothers: Richard Bland Conner, Jr. and John Conner, and a sister: Ruth Alred. Pallbearers will be Roi Nelson, Cameron Harris, John Harris, John Conner, Jr, Brent Harris, Aaron Baldwin, and Dr. Doug Auld. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Bob Bartheld, Tom Crowl, Bruce Hall, Dr. Ken Miller, Bill Harris, Don Hackler, Lance Woodliff, Jerry Grubbs, Joe Massaro, George Lampton, Ed Robinson, and Paul Volturo.
