Doy Wayne Adams, 85, of McAlester, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Doy was born June 11, 1940, in Blanco, Oklahoma. He graduated from Kiowa High School and devoted his life to education. He graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s and master's degree in education. Over the course of his distinguished career, he served as a teacher, basketball coach, principal, and superintendent in Ardmore, Clarita, Pittsburg and finally, 34 years at Frink Chambers. Doy was deeply committed to his students, colleagues, and community, and his leadership touched the lives of countless individuals. Doy was a member of the Frink Baptist Church and served as a deacon for many decades. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason with the McAlester Masonic Lodge. He loved fishing, hunting, woodworking, OKC Thunder basketball games, Braum's, the Adams Family Reunion, and spending time with his family and friends. He loved to share stories about his life and childhood with everyone. He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Osborne, and her husband Darren; grandchildren Hayden Oswald and Aubrey, Clayton Oswald and Bianca, Trenton Oswald and Julia, William Oswald, Sheridyn Poe and Kaleb, Lincoln Osborne, and Samuel Osborne; and great-grandchildren Liam Richardson, Easton Oswald, Thea Oswald, and a new addition on the way. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Judy Belt, and countless nieces and nephews. He loved his family dearly. Doy was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean (Belt) Adams; his parents, Robert Adams and Della Marie Adams (Anderson); and his siblings Dorothy Hall, Lois Hall, Patsy Sweetin, Don Adams, Paul Adams, Robert Adams, Ella Hall, Ray Adams and Betty Ramey. A funeral service celebrating Doy's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Doy Adams Gymnasium at Frink-Chambers Public School. The service will be officiated by Monte Busby, with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Hayden Oswald, Clayton Oswald, Trenton Oswald, William Oswald, Lincoln Osborne and Sam Osborne. Honorary Pallbearers are Darren Osborne, Lloyd Belt, Sam Tate, Richard Peckio, Scott Burke, Donald Armstrong, Odis Trammell, Kaleb and Sheridyn Poe, Juanita Sherrell, and the members of the "Up" men's Sunday School class at Frink Baptist Church. Doy will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his faith, and his calling as an educator. His legacy of love, service, and integrity and his sense of humor will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will surely be missed!
