Featherston Cemetery

Madie B. Howard, 76, of Indianola, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at her residence. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Bishop Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 13 at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Rev. Heath Eldridge, Rev. Daniel Morrison, Rev. Brent Jarrett, Rev. Fred Morrison, and Rev. Jamie Kirkpatrick officiating. Interment will be at Featherston Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Madie B. Breckenridge Howard was born June 6, 1938 in Crowder, the daughter of George Washington & Susie Newberry Breckenridge. She graduated from Crowder High School. She married Robert Howard, Jr. on November 15, 1957 in Stigler, and made their home in the Ash Creek/ Elm Point area. Madie worked as a seamstress for Elsing's Clothing Manufacturing before she began her career as a correctional officer at Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Canadian Shores Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include her son: Hayden Howard of Stigler; daughters: Lynn & Steve Eldridge of Indianola, Darlene Hancock of North Carolina; sisters: Hazel Wood of Grove, Edith Larkin of Rogersville, Mississippi. Also, grandchildren: Crystal Howard, Wayne Howard, Justin Howard, Seth Eldridge, Heath Eldridge & wife, Julie and Amanda DeGraffenried; great-grandchild: Josiah Eldridge; sisters-in-law: Betty (Strain) Conteras of McAlester, Jo (Strain) Green of Skiatook. And, caregivers: Brenda Stalter, Cindy Barkley, Kathy Norman, Shelly Morrison, Charlie Snell, Jessica Barlow, Janet Crossland and Rose Gibbons, Nurses of Oklahoma Solutions, Mays Home Health Care, and Heartland Hospice; Melissa, Sonya Micah, Crissy, Christi, and Vicky; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Robert Howard, Jr.; brothers: Lloyd Breckenridge and Clarence Breckenridge; special friend and companion: Roger DeGraffenried; sisters: Florence Eslick, Sylva Smith, Nola Tanner, Idabel Long, Dora Edwards; and her daughter-in-law: Vicki Lynn Howard. Pallbearers will be Seth Eldridge, Wayne Howard, Trey Carter, Caleb Black, Bill Black, and Rocky Murdaugh. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Howard, Mike Baker, men of Canadian Shores Free Will Baptist Church, men of Tannehill Free Will Baptist Church, and Mrs. Howard's nephews.
