Raymond Dean Nichols

Raymond Dean Nichols, 80, died on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater, Oklahoma, with Norman Richmond officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family will greet friends on Friday, June 29, from 6-8 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home.

Raymond was born on June 3, 1932 in Harrah, Oklahoma to Norby Glee and Dortha Mae [George] Nichols. He married Patsy Lou King in Stillwater, Oklahoma on June 5, 1952. Raymond was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War from 1952-1954 having reached the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged. Raymond was awarded 2 bronze service stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Raymond painted cars for Ward Chevrolet until 1961 when he began working at the U. S. Post Office where he worked for 28 years, retiring in 1989. He was proud of his membership in the National Association of Letter Carrier. Raymond was also a thirty-one year member of the National Rifle Association and belonged to the Stillwater Bass Club. As a younger man, Raymond enjoyed many adventures. He was a great baseball pitcher, coached many baseball teams, and coached and played softball. He rode dirt bikes, hunted rattlesnakes, collected guns and coins, fished as often as possible, and enjoyed many years of hunting with his buddies.

Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patsy Lou Nichols; daughter, Rae Lynn Ette Maxey and husband Tim; son, Rick Alan Nichols and wife Kelly; daughter, Nita Gay Nichols and partner Shannon Trimble; daughter, Nikki Lou Hoffman and husband, Glenn; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gale Andrew, Wayne Ernce, Cotton German, Charlie Peterson, Ben Schatz, Ron Treat, and Gary Westmoreland.

Pallbearers are grandson-in-laws Clarance Johnson, Lucas Thompson, and Jacob Linneman; Family friends Brett Andrew, Maurice German, and Morris German.
