Leo Preston Spears, 79, resident of Barnsdall, and retired Butcher, died Thursday December 4, 2014 at his home in Barnsdall, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Funeral Services for Mr. Spears will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Barnsdall with Rev. Rick Loggins pastor of the Church, and Rev. David Bigger, officiating. Interment will be in the Ethel Reece Cemetery in Barnsdall under the direction of the Stumpff -Barnsdall Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the Stumpff-Barnsdall Funeral Home from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, and 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday.

Memorial contributions may be sent in his memory to the Rivercross Hospice 9820 E. 41st St. Suite #400 Tulsa, OK. 74146, or to the Shirley Cook Food Bank/o his church the First Freewill Baptist Church P.O. Box 328 Barnsdall, OK. 74002.

Mr. Spears was born on August 15, 1935 at Red Hill, near Hannah, Oklahoma to Edmund and Sarah Viola (Morris) Spears. He was raised and received his early education in the Red Hill, and Hannah communities. He was married to Shirley Ann Schneeberger on May 20, 1955 at Braman, Oklahoma. He began his work career at age 15 working as a butcher at Turvey's Meat packing plant in Blackwell, OK. He was active in farming and ranching in that area also until moving to the Pawhuska, working in the Bluestem Processing Plant and then later at Daack's Meat Plant in Ponca City, until moving to Barnsdall area in 1989 when he opened the Barnsdall Meat Processing Plant which he operated for a number of years, turning over operations to his son Eddie who continues to operate the plant. He continued working with his son in the family business until 2011. He was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Barnsdall for many years, and was active in his church, and witnessed to many people at several places, such as Wal Mart when his wife was shopping. He loved his family and his grandchildren dearly, as well as his church family, his hobbies included fishing and hunting and spending time with his family.

Mr. Spears is survived by his loving wife of over 59 years Shirley Ann Spears of the home, one daughter Susie Polasek and husband Jerry of Barnsdall, sons Eddie Ray Spears and his wife Barbara , and Kenneth Leo Spears and his wife Alice, both of Barnsdall, sister Jeanette Stowers of Pond Creek, OK., and a brother Doug Spears of Blackwell, OK., by ten grandchildren; Sarah Tinnie, Melissa Polasek, Elizabeth James, Jessica Spears, Kenneth Leo Spears Jr., Branden Spears, Justin Spears, Candace Spears, Chelsea Salinas, and Drew Sayre, six great-grandchildren Chisholm Spears, Gregory James, Preston Tinnie, Maia Polasek, Kenneth Polasek and Benjamin Salinas. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son Bobby Lee Spears, and a grandson George Preston Polasek in 1995, and by one sister and a brother.
