Cara “Corky” McCray, 80, of Copan, died Saturday at her home in Copan.

Cara Marie Weabe was born the daughter of Adolph and Josephine Pearl (Hayes) Weabe on June 13, 1935, in Barnsdall, OK. Cara - or Corky as she was dubbed by her father - was raised in Barnsdall and received her education with the Barnsdall High School class of 1953. Corky met Floyd McCray at her Uncle Ted's roller rink, and they were united in marriage on February 17, 1952, at the Barnsdall First Baptist Church by Rev. Franklin Allee. Floyd enlisted in the U.S. Air Force so they made their first home in Gulf Port, MS, while he trained at Keesler AFB. Once trained they transferred to Biggs AFB in El Paso, TX, and finally to Clovis AFB in New Mexico. Once honorably discharged in 1955 the family moved to Tulsa for a few years before Floyd took a position with Phillips Petroleum Co. and they lived in Bartlesville for three years before transferring to Houston and working at the Sweeny refinery. In 1963 the family moved to Copan where they have remained. Once the children were older Corky worked for the Bureau of Mines as a sniffer and Dr. John Gerard DDS as a dental assistant. When she left her position there she became a full-time grandma.

Corky's greatest passion in life was her children and grandchildren. Spending time with them and attending their many activities was what she did. They enjoyed camping and also spent many memorable times with family and grandkids on their property at Court House Hollow, Grand Lake. She and Floyd were avid square dancers and they were members of several local clubs through the years. She leaves a big void and was dearly loved.

Corky is survived by her loving husband Floyd of the home; three daughters, Sheri L. Call and LeRoy, Teresa Lynn Salkil, and Debby J. Smith and Bob; one brother Johnny Weabe; four grandchildren, Rodney Jackson and Christina, Kenny Prather and Roxanne, Kassy Friedman and Jay, and H.C. Call and Emily; 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers William “Cap” Weabe, Adolph Weabe Jr, Nick Weabe; one sister Martha Ballinger; and one granddaughter Sonya Porter.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, at the New Life Wesleyan Church in Copan, with Pastor Rando Gamble officiating. Interment will follow in the Ethel Reece Cemetery, Barnsdall. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9-8. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared with Corky's family at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
