Mr. William Augusta "Red" Bell, 95, retiree of the Cities Service Gas Company, widower of Mrs. Mary Marjorie (Young) Bell and long time Barnsdall resident, passed away at 12:55 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at his home surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be held at the graveside in the Ethel Reece Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2007. Mr. Leon Martin of the First Christian Church in Barnsdall will be the officiant. Committal prayers and interment will be directed by the Arnold Moore - Barnsdall Funeral Home.

An Oklahoma native, William Augusta Bell was born August 23, 1912 at Tahlequah in Cherokee County. He was the son of Jasper Bell and Addie (Wolfe) Bell. Red came to Osage County at a young age with family members and was reared and received his education in the Avant and Wolco communities. He was graduated with the Senior Class of 1931 from the Avant High School. Red was united in marriage to the former Mary Marjorie Young on December 31, 1935 at Carthage, Missouri and they made their home near the Wolco community before moving to Barnsdall where they remained. Red was an employee of the Cities Service Company and spent his entire career with them at the Tallant Compressor Station. Mary was employed by the United States Postal Service. Red was an avid sports fan of football, basketball and baseball. He played baseball with the Avant and Wolco town teams for 15 years. He also played golf and made three trips to New York City for Cities Service and won one trophy while playing for the company golf team. He was retired in 1974 after 40 years of employment with the company. Mary preceded him in death on October 19, 2006.

Memorials to the charity of choice is requested, in lieu of flowers.

Survivors are his sons: William E. "Bill" Bell and Beth of Barnsdall, Okla., Robert E. Bell of Collinsville, Okla. and Larry R. and Connie Bell of Barnsdall, Okla.; five grandchildren, Bruce and Laura Bell, Brian and Sheryl Bell all of Marco Island, Florida, Brad and Tennie Bell of Denver, Colorado, Christopher Bell of Cushing, Okla. and Tamara and Nicolas Eaves of Barnsdall, Okla.; and five great grandchildren, Caleb, Brett and Chase of Barnsdall, Taylor Bell, Amber and Nicole Prange of Marco Island, Florida. In addition to his wife, Mary, Red was preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers and a sister.
