Ed Story, age 85 of Wayne, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017, at the Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Purcell.

Edward Lee Story was born February 3, 1932, in Paoli, Oklahoma, the 10th of 11 children born to Thomas Jefferson Story and Susie Katherine (Nard) Story. Ed was raised in Paoli and attended school there, graduating in 1950. Ed joined the United States Air Force and served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict. On October 27, 1954, Ed married the love of his life, Betty Lou Green. They lived in various towns throughout Texas while Ed was in the Air Force and later lived for a short time in Monroe, Louisiana. Ed worked for many years in pipeline maintenance in the natural gas industry. After retiring, Ed and Betty moved to Lake Palestine, TX, later settling in Wayne in 1993. Ed was a soft spoken and kind man, who never met a stranger. He was a patriot, a man of faith and a good friend to many. While living in Wayne he regularly attended the Wayne Senior Citizens Center where he made many friends. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by: His wife, Betty Story; His parents, Thomas and Susie Story and 10 brothers and sisters.

Ed is survived by: His son, Hal Story 3 grandchildren, Vanna, Jenna and E.J.; 2 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and A host of other family and friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:30 P.M. Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell.

Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.
