Billy Gene Stephens

Billy Gene Stephens, age 83 of Cromwell, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021, at St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee. Billy, known as B.G., was born in Okla. City, OK, the youngest of 3 children born to Wilburn “Webb” Stephens and Minnie Elizabeth (McWaters) Stephens. He was raised in Lindsay where he attended school. By age 17, Billy had found work in the oil field. He married young, and to this union, 4 children, sons, Ray, Tony and Terry and daughter, Gay were born. Billy worked his way up in the oil industry and then started his own company, S + W Wireline CO in McAllen, TX. He later married Shirley Stephens, and two families became one. By 1988, the had settled back home in Oklahoma, and Billy continued his work with Stephen’s Wireline Service. He loved just being outdoors, hunting and fishing every chance he could. He loved anything and everything to do with his horses, and followed the Rodeo circuit, as he was a big fan of professional bull riders. After retirement, he raced horses and raised cattle. Billy was an avid sports fan, and cheered hard for his Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, brother, uncle and a true friend. He will be dearly missed!

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Shirley Stephens; son Ray Stephens; great granddaughter, Camryn Owings; his parents, Webb and Minnie Stephens and his brother, Dub Stephens.

Billy is survived by: his boys, Bill ‘BJ’ Stephens and fiancé Sharon of Cromwell, Tony Stephens; Terry Stephens, Kent Owings of Bethany, Kelly Owings of Lexington, daughters, Gay Stephen , Kenna Campbell and husband Roger of Bethel Acres, OK; Sister, Lueva Norman of Stanton, TX; 8 grandchildren: Josh Owings, Jarrod Owings, Kenneth Owings, Billy Owings, Jayci, Reily, Rick Campbell and wife Chystal Alisha Perkins and husband Aaron; 9 great grandchildren: Kaytlyn, Riley Jo, Izzy, Kaleb, Kash, Landon, Brook, Amber and Kaydence; one great grandson, Kaeson and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Little’s Chapel. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed on our website, www.wilsonlittle.com and our Facebook page, Wilson Little.
