Arthur David Sparlin age 87 of Purcell, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Purcell Municipal Hospital.  

David was born on July 9, 1931 in Purcell, Oklahoma, the oldest of six children born to Jody Sparlin and Bessie Mae (Millsap) Sparlin.   David grew up in Purcell, graduating from Purcell High School with the class of 1949. He attended the University of Oklahoma and later joined the U. S. Air Force.  He proudly served four years stationed in Iceland before he was honorably discharged.

    On May 2, 1952, he married Sue Nelle Boatwright.  Together they made their home in Purcell and raised four children, David, Cathy, Carol and Mark.

    David grew up in the family automobile dealership, Sparlin Pontiac, GMC, Buick, Inc., in Purcell, managing the business after returning home from military duty.  Mr Sparlin served as a director, on the board of the Oklahoma Automobile Dealer Association for many years. David dedicated himself to serving the public and the generations of families who trusted him with their transportation needs.  He was active in the Purcell community throughout his life, joining the Purcell Rotary Club in 1956, and was distinguished as their oldest member.  He was an active member of the Purcell First Baptist Church since 1941, and the local American Legion.

    Mr Sparlin loved his pet dogs, and outdoor activities, riding motorcycles, and spending time at Lake Texoma and Lake Arbuckle.  He loved good food, conversation with many friends, and enjoyed watching the hummingbirds, cardinals and other animal life surrounding his home.

    He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and love for his family.

He was preceded in death by:

Parents,        Jody and Bessie Sparlin.

Brother,        Bill Sparlin.

He is survived by:

Wife of 66 years,        Sue Sparlin of the home,

Four children,        David Sparlin and wife Jane of Purcell,

                Cathy Ellis and husband Tony of Purcell,

                Carol Marcum and husband Monty of Goldsby,

                Mark Sparlin and Darren Owens of Pauls Valley.

One brother,            Tommy Sparlin of Purcell,

Three sisters,        Jimi Sparlin of Dallas, TX,

                Alma Collins of Portland, OR,

                Betty Klassen of Sun Lakes, AZ.

Nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two on the way.

Also, several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00pm Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Purcell.  

Interment will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.

Memorials may be made to the Purcell FBC Mission Fund, P.O. Box 665, Purcell, OK 73080.
