Memorial Donation

On April 11, 2019, Velma Louise McGowen Pirtle, passed away at the age of 92. Velma was a beloved wife and mother of three children.

Velma was born in Hugo, Oklahoma, on November 8, 1926, to David and Lula Mae McGowen. She was the youngest of 10 children. On June 27, 1945, she married the love of her life, Glen Dell Pirtle. Together they raised two daughters, Linda and Brenda, and one son, Glen, Jr. 
 

During World War 2, Velma worked at Chance Vought Aircraft as a riveter and later as a telephone operator after the war. Later on she was a homemaker who enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, and doing crossword puzzles for hours. She and Glen celebrated 52 years of marriage before he passed away. During their marriage they lived in Oklahoma, New York, Japan, and Texas.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Glen, her parents, nine siblings, two nieces, and one nephew.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Harris (George) of Rowlett, TX, and Brenda Maiolo of Wappinger Falls, NY, one son Glen (Laura Lee) of Prosper, TX, 7 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 20, 2019 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
