Lillian King, 76, of Purcell went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 1st, 2014. She was born April 17, 1938 in Kearney, Nebraska - the youngest of six children born to Carl Hanner and Matilda (Boysen) Hanner.

She attended Kearney schools graduating from high school in 1956. From there, she attended Bethany Nazarene College graduating in 1963 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught first and second grades in Kinsley, Kansas for three years. While at college, she met her husband-to-be Tomie King and they were married on May 28, 1966. Together they raised three children in the Washington and Maysville area. After the kids were born, she decided not to return to her teaching job. She kept herself busy with the garden and sewing, making clothes for herself, her children and cheerleader outfits. In 1975 she made a coat for herself, which won the “Daily Oklahoman’s Golden Thimble Award”. She was an active member of Women’s Aglow in Norman, where she served 5 years as president of the group. She was also an active member of Memorial Assembly of God church for many years where she taught children’s classes, adult classes, discipleship classes, played the piano, and devoted many hours to prayer with the women’s prayer group.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Carl and Matilda Hanner; her husband, Tomie in 2007; three sisters, Hazel Timblin, Mary Stevens and Carol Hanner; and one brother, Paul Hanner.

She is survived by three children: Carol King of Purcell, Jerry King and his wife Cara of Purcell, and Laura King of Oklahoma City; and four grandchildren: Alyssa, Faith, Hope, and Jonathan; one sister, Dorothy Powell of Greeley, Colorado; Two sisters –in-law, Freeda Jarboe of Salina, OK and Deanie King of Norman. Also many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014 at Memorial Assembly of God Church in Purcell. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.

Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
