Clyde Hickman age 92 of Purcell, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Cedar Creek Nursing Home in Norman.

William Clyde Hickman was born December 12, 1922 in Wanette, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of four children born to William Cail Hickman and Minnie Lee (Wright) Hickman. Clyde grew up a farm boy living in the Wanette area. During his earlier years he attended the Possum Trot country school before attending the Wanette schools. Clyde joined the United States Army Air Corp, and he served his country proudly during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart, an honor he often recalled.

At the age of 22 he fell in love with a young girl from the same community named Opal Laverne Hopkins. They were married in July of 1945 and together made their first home on a farm near Wanette. Clyde and Laverne raised two sons, Terry and Gary. After farming for several years they operated a soda shop and variety store for several years in Wanette. During this time they even ran a movie theater in Wanette. In 1956, Clyde and Laverne moved to Purcell and operated a Mobil Gas Station on the corner of Main St. and Green Ave. In the early 1960’s Clyde started driving a truck. He worked for Oklahoma Tank Lines hauling gasoline, and eventually retired after a number of years. Throughout their life, Clyde and Laverne enjoyed traveling, especially to the northwest part of the United States. He was an avid gardener and always had plenty of vegetables to give away to his family and friends during the summer. Most of all, Clyde enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by: Parents, William and Minnie Hickman; Two brothers, John Lewis Hickman and Orville Cleatus Hickman; One sister, Juanita Whitaker;

He is survived by: Two sons, Terry Hickman of OKC, Gary Hickman and wife Vickie of Norman; One sister-in-law, Margie Hackett and husband John of Tecumseh; 3 step grandchildren, 8 step great grandchildren, Many nieces, nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Graveside funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell. Send online condolences @wilsonlittle.com
