W.B. “Dub” Curry, age 88 of Purcell, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018.

Dub was born February 9, 1930 in Bangs, Texas, the youngest of 3 children born to W.B. Curry Sr. and Lillian (Marburger) Curry. He was raised in Freer, TX and attended school there. He then attended North Texas State University. Dub answered the call to serve his country and joined the United States Coast Guard, serving in the Korean War. While in the Coast Guard, he married his best friend and life partner Marlene Stokes, and together they raised 3 children, son Stephen and daughters Diane and Carol Ann. After being discharged, they made their home in Freer for a short time before moving to Healdton, OK where he worked as an Oilfield Material Manager. In 1981, they settled in Purcell, and have called it home since. Dub was a kind man; soft spoken and always ready to share a good story when needed. Dub was a hard worker and a great provider, and worked well into his 80’s. He cherished Marlene, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and was an avid supporter of their various activities and sporting events. Dub enjoyed the outdoors; working on the farm, planting trees and tending to his garden. He was an avid Sooner fan, and loved all things OU. But most of all, Dub was a man of strong faith and a longtime and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Purcell. He will be dearly missed!
