Services for Opal Estaline Willis Meeks, 88, of Marietta, were held at 2 p.m., Monday, October 12, in the Covenant of Grace Church, Marietta, with Rev. Gerald Meeks officiating, assisted by Rev. Angela Harrison and Rev. Don Keizor. Interment was in the Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon.
Born January 31, 1921 in Enville, the daughter of Nathan and Hettie Jane Johnson Willis, she died Thursday, October 8, 2009 in Lake Country Nursing Center, Marietta.
Mrs. Meeks was a homemaker and had been a resident of Love County all of her life. She attended Enville Elementary School and Marietta High School. She and L.D. Meeks were married January 31, 1941 at Enville. Mrs. Meeks enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking, especially for her family. She was an active member of the Covenant of Grace Church.
Survivors include her husband, L.D. Meeks of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and JoAnn Meeks of Elkton, Virginia; two daughters and son-in-law, Carolyn Hunnicutt and friend Bill Ivey of Salem, South Carolina, and Barbara and Earl Wright of Marietta; four grandchildren and spouses, Lynn and Shari Hockersmith, Lance and Kim Hockersmith, Anthony and Kelly Hunnicutt and Timothy and Heather Hunnicutt; and nine great-grandchildren, Brooke Hockersmith, Bridgit Hockersmith, Hannah Hockersmith, Macailyn Hockersmith, Sadie Hockersmith, Ansley Moore, Ander Hunnicutt, Seth Hunnicutt and Breanna Hunnicutt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Cullen Willis, Benjamin Willis, Condo Willis, Cordie Willis and Gilbert Willis; two sisters, Evadell Daughrity and Elsie Montgomery; and a great-granddaughter, Lynzi Faith Hockersmith.
Pallbearers were Winston Warthen, Caleb Fincher, Lynn Hockersmith, Lance Hockersmith, Anthony Hunnicutt and Timothy Hunnicutt.
