Wilbur Dwain Tillman, 79, of Vinson, passed away Monday, November 4, 2013, at Baptist St. Anthony Hospital, in Amarillo. Mr. Tillman was born in Carl, Oklahoma, on March 20, 1934, to Little Julius and Nannie Pearl (Wylie) Tillman. After beginning school at Carl, he graduated from Vinson in 1952. While in school, he worked at Dixon-Kirchoff and after graduation he began working in Childress, Texas at Plains Creamery.

In 1953 he joined the U. S. Army Reserves where he served for seventeen years. On July 3, 1954, he married the love of his life, Barbara Graves and they spent the next fifty-nine wonderful years together before his death. They moved to Amarillo in December 1954 and stayed until 1976, where Wilbur worked for the Texas State Highway Department and FYFE Cement. In 1976, they moved back to Harmon County on the farm where he was raised and where he lived until his death. For a time, Wilbur worked for Cates John Deere while he continued his farming and ranching operation. A longtime member of the Church of Christ, Wilbur loved working with old John Deere tractors, bird hunting, feeding his cattle and spending time with his family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, one son, Baron Tillman, in 1992; one grandson, Tyson Tillman in 2004; and one great granddaughter, Lillie Tillman in 2005.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, of the home; one son, Lee Jay Tillman and wife Alejandra of Vinson; seven grandchildren, Rance Tillman and wife Lindsi of Hollis, Landon Tillman and wife Kendra of Hollis, Karissa Tillman of Norman, Lecito Tillman of Vinson, Wendy Bridges and husband Chris of Amarillo, Aaron Green and husband Kip of Amarillo and Baron Tillman and wife Lana of Vega, Texas; twelve great grandchildren, Jayde, Romi, Austin, Sean, Haley, Lane, Makenna, Rigdon, Aiden, Trey, Travis and Maggie; one sister, Marjorie Cockrell of Springfield, Missouri and one brother, Bobby Tillman and wife Casey of Liberal Kansas along with many other relatives and friends.


Funeral services for Wilbur Tillman will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, November 7, 2013, at the Hollis Church of Christ with Roger Todd officiating. Interment will follow at the Independence Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis.
