Alvie Joe Mitchell, Sr., 85 of Glen Rose passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 in Glen Rose, Texas. Services will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Mangum Church of Christ in Mangum, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Greer Funeral Home in Mangum.
Mr. Mitchell was born on September 20, 1926 in Bethany, Oklahoma to Ernest and Virginia (Downs) Mitchell. He was a veteran of the United States Navy in World War II aboard the USS Salerno Bay. He married Ruth Hall on July 29, 1946 in Wellington, Texas. Alvie and Ruth moved to Perryton, Texas in 1949 where he worked for Natural Gas Company in Gray, Oklahoma. He lived in the Perryton and Balko area until 1962 when they moved to Enid, Oklahoma when he started Enid Craft Built Homes. He ran AJ's Bar B Q restaurant in Oklahoma City and Shawnee. Alvie retired in 1991 to Desoto, Texas and later to Mangum, Oklahoma. He came to Glen Rose to live on the Ten XXX Ranch in 2005.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: George, Oliver, Ivan, and twin brother, Allie; and sister, Oneda Hill.
Survivors: wife: Ruth Mitchell of Glen Rose; sons: Alvie Joe Mitchell, Jr. and wife, Connie of Glen Rose, Texas, Ernest Mitchell and wife, Michelle of Carrollton, Texas; daughter: Beverly LaCrosse of Norman, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Brooke Mitchell, Brett Mitchell, Brady Kent, Joey Mitchell, Jamie Mitchell, Veronica Santos, Valerie Lopez, Chris Mitchell, Jeannie Mojica, Clane LaCrosse, 14 great grandchildren and many other family and friends.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
