Lorene Barnes, age 95, of Hollis, passed away early Sunday morning, December 21, 2014, at Harmon Memorial Hospital, in Hollis. Mrs. Barnes was born in Seminole, Oklahoma on January 13, 1919, to Henry and Anna (Robins) Foster. Moving to Dodson, Texas at the age of ten, Lorene attended school at Dodson School. As a teenager, Lorene met the famous “Bonnie and Clyde” while walking across a field, near Dodson and didn’t know who they were until a few years later. Moving to California, where her parents sought work, she stayed there until the mid1930’s and moved back to Dodson. Lorene started beauty school and finished by apprenticeship. She later met Harry Barnes and they were married in 1940. In the 1950’s Lorene moved to Arizona and took in some of her families’ children, when their parents died and raised them as her own. In the mid 1960’s she moved back to Hollis, where she lived until her death. In her spare time, Lorene enjoyed going to garage sales, buying antiques, shopping second hand stores, singing Christmas carols and listening to music.

Preceded in death by her parents; one son Dickey Barnes; two grandsons, David Barnes and Michael Joe Barnes; four sisters, Lois, Juanita, Jewel and Irene and two brothers, Henry and Leroy.

She is survived by one son, Bobby Joe Barnes of Hollis; one daughter-in-law, Ann Barnes of Hollis; two grandchildren, Shura Garnett and Leah Hamm; seven great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.
