Blackwell – Mass of Christian Burial for Louis Peter Yunker, 75, will be at 10 AM Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joe Burger officiating. A wake service will be at 7:30 PM Tuesday in the Roberts and Sons Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery at Medford.

He was born December 31, 1918, on a farm North of Wakita to Louis A. and Anna Kretchar Yunker and died Sunday, December 25, 1994, at Blackwell Regional Hospital. He grew up on the farm attending Enterprise Rural School then Wakita High School, graduating in 1936. He then began farming with his father. He married Ethel June Ulrey July 23, 1942, in Medford. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. Following his discharge, they settled on a farm north of South Haven, Kansas. He farmed there and was a custom combine cutter for 36 years. He retired in 1989 and they made their home in Blackwell. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of the Ivan M. Swaim Post 2855 of Blackwell.

Surviving are his wife, June Yunker of Blackwell; two daughters, Rita Creed of Forrestburg, Texas and Carol Smith of Tulsa; six sons, Steve Yunker of Blackwell, Charles Yunker of Belle Plain, Kansas, Galen Yunker of Caldwell, Neal Yunker of Wellington, Kansas, Thane Yunker and Thomas Yunker, both of South Haven, Kansas; 22 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church Building Fund.
