James Robert Yunker of Braman, Oklahoma, died Monday, May 30, 2011, at his home near Braman at the age of 73 years.

James Robert Yunker was born on December 25, 1937, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Robert Aloysius and Martha Vaughn (Craig) Yunker. He grew up in Braman and attended Pleasant Hill School before graduating from Braman High School in 1956. Following his education he entered the United States Army for six months before transferring to the Army Reserve where he served for fifteen years. He attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa for two years before attending Oklahoma State Tech in Okmulgee where he studied diesel mechanics. Following his training he returned to Braman and began farming with his family until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Blackwell. He also held a lifetime membership in the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his sisters, Marguerite Mangen of Rochester, Minnesota, Linda Lu Brand of Braman, Oklahoma, and Rose Marie Terada of Louisville, Colorado; two nephews, Jeff Mangen of Glendale Heights, Illinois, and Andy Brand of Selma, California; and six nieces, Sandra Lukasik of Addison, Illinois, Anna Jo Isaacs of Leonard, Texas, Lorena Brand of Ft. Hood, Texas, Teresa Poterucka, Julie Mangen and Laurie Mangen all of Rochester, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Michael Alan Yunker; and a niece, Teresa Brand.

A prayer service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 3rd in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell. Funeral mass is set for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 4th in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Blackwell with Father Richard Beckman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Medford, Oklahoma.

Casketbearers will be Tom Poterucka, Trent Isaacs, Chris Isaacs, Charles Storck, Bob Marshall, Steven Yunker, Charles Yunker, Neil Yunker, Richard Yunker, Galen Yunker, Donnie Yunker, Tommy Joe Yunker and Thane Yunker.

A memorial has been established in his honor with the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or the Knights of Columbus in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
