St. Mary Calvary Cemetery


Medford – Mass of Christian Burial for Herbert William Arens, 86, will be 10 AM Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. James Goin will officiate. Rosary will be recited at 7 PM today at the funeral home. The casket will be open at the funeral home from 9 AM to 7 PM today and 7:55 PM Thursday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hills – Ely Funeral Home.

He was born February 12, 1913, in Montrose, Missouri, to John and Mary Josephine Licher Arens and died Monday, November 22, 1999, in Golden Oaks Nursing Center. He graduated from Medford High School. On September 4, 1939, he married Clara Leola Smetana at Manchester. He had farmed in the Medford area for 50 years and was a mechanic for Bluebaugh Ford for several years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Medford.

Surviving are his wife, Clara of Golden Oaks Village, Enid; two sons, William of Wichita, Kansas, and Edward of Enid; three daughters, Joan Waldeck of Seattle, Judy Hula of Irving, Texas, and Kay Larrahee of Shawnee; four brothers, Leonard of Medford, Bernard of Enid, Jim of Bartlesville and Alvin of Perma Heights, Ohio; three sisters, Irene Connelley of Enid, Leona Kretchmar and Wilma Keller of Medford; 12 grandchildren; and four great – grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hospice Circle of Love.
