Rosemound Cemetery


ENID — Funeral service for Claud O. Smith, 85, of Medford, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011, at First United Methodist Church, Medford. The Rev. Ruth Tipps will officiate. Interment will follow in Rosemound Cemetery, Medford. Arrangements are under the direction of Hills-Ely Funeral Home, Medford.

Claud was born Sept. 26, 1925, near Dill City, Okla., to Homer P. and Nettie (Moore) Smith and passed from this life early Wednesday morning, May 25, 2011, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.

He attended school in Cordell and graduated from Rocky High School. He attended three semesters at Panhandle A&M and graduated from Hills Business College in 1950.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from November 1943 until June 1946, with the rank of sergeant.

Claud and Rosalyn Yates were married in 1949 in Clinton, Okla.

Claud was employed at Sentinel Bank from 1950 to 1963 and was the first president of Guaranty Bank in Oklahoma City from 1963 to 1965. In 1965, the family moved to Medford, where

Claud was president of First National Bank of Medford until he retired in 1989.

He enjoyed golf and was instrumental in establishing the first golf course in Medford on the Hills farm east of Medford.

In the middle '70s he was one of the founders of Medford Golf Course south of Medford on U.S. 81.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Medford and past member of Medford Lions Club. One of the greatest pleasures of life was watching his grandchildren play sports in school.

Claud was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Ancil, J.O. and Marvin.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalyn of the home; two sons, Ronald Yates Smith, and Greg Claud Smith and wife Connie, all of Medford; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Austin; a sister, Betty Martin and husband Bill of Weleetka, Okla.; and other relatives and many friends.

Memorials may be made to the church or Medford Ambulance Fund with Hills-Ely Funeral Home, P.O. Box 280, Medford, OK 73759 serving as custodian of the funds.
