Ronald (Ron) Lee Shaffer went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 8, 2023, in Stratford, TX, Coldwater Manor Nursing Home.
Ronald graduated Pond Creek High School in 1944 as a Bearcat. He joined the U.S. Navy 9/12/1944. While in the Navy he spent time in NTC, Great Lakes, Illinois, ATB, Camp Bradford, NOB Norfolk, VA, on ships USS LST-1080, USS LST- 580, USS LSM-430. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy on July 3, 1946. After leaving the U.S. Navy, he was a farmer for the remainder of his life.
On January 31, 1970, Ron married the love of his life Rubena (Ruby) Helan Barkman.
Ron loved serving his Lord and his community. He served as deacon from November 21, 1971, to March 8, 2020, and was made Deacon Emeritus. He was also a Gideon for many years. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family but not as much as his grandkids (punkins). Ron would give you the shirt off his back even if it was his last one. He led several family and friends and even people he didn't know to the lord.
Ron is survived by his children Rhonda and husband Bryce Victory of Stratford, TX, Randal and wife Blossom Shaffer of Andrews, TX; two sisters, Marlene and husband Ray Hodge of Wichita, KS, and Karen Roy of Topeka, KS; brother Jerry and wife Jan Shaffer of Pond Creek, OK; Grandchildren Karysa, Isaac, Daniel, Marcy, Grace, Sarah and Abigail; as well as many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rubena (Ruby) Shaffer; parents, Price and Ruth Shaffer; two brothers; and one sister.
Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday September 12, 2023, at Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek, OK. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at the First Baptist Church, Pond Creek, OK, with Pastor Mark Looney officiating. Interment will follow in Pond Creek Cemetery.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, have been set up for missions through Wilson Funeral Home. Once all donations have been received, proceeds will be distributed to missions that were very important to Ron and Ruby.
