Leola M. and Kenneth E. Owen

Pond Creek Cemetery

Leola Owen departed this life to be with the Lord on March 12, 2017, just days shy of her 94th birthday. She passed into her loving Savior's arms at Franciscan Villa in Broken Arrow, where she has resided for the past several years.

Leola was born March 23, 1923, and was the daughter of E. R. and Anna Nees. She attended and graduated from Gore Public Schools. Leola loved playing the piano and was self-taught at an early age. She was a member of Bethel Hawley Baptist Church for many years, where she played for the church services. During her lifetime, she played for many weddings, funerals and school programs. She was an accomplished piano player. Her favorite songs to play were old classic hymns, such as Amazing Grace and Old Rugged Cross, but the one she loved most and received many compliments on was Jericho Road. During Leola's years on the farm, she and her husband were active member of Grange. Leola married the love of her life, Kenneth Owen, on Sept. 14, 1943. Together, they made their home on a farm west of Jefferson, and later moved into the town of Jefferson. They moved to Marlow in 1973, where she continued playing piano for the quartet group, The Silvertones, and for various rest homes.

In 1988, after Kenneth retired from the US Post Office, they returned to Pond Creek and lived there until Kenneth's death in 1997. In 2003, Leola moved to Tulsa to be closer to family. Leola was a very loving and compassionate mother and wife and gave her all to her family. There was not a better mother and wife.

Leola was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Owen, mother, Mary Ann (Anna) Grayson, father, E. R. Nees, brother, Charles Nees, step-brothers, Lee Grayson, Orpha Grayson, and Marshall Grayson.

Left to cherish her wonderful memory are two daughters, Linda Johnson, Plano, Texas, and Leah Sebring (John Sebring) of Broken Arrow, and two sons, Robert Owen and Keith Owen (Hope Owen), all of Plano, Texas. Grandchildren: Jennifer Murer (Eric Murer), Plano, Texas; Rachael Grigg (Rob Grigg) Tulsa; Tiffany Cole (Rob Cole), McKinney, Texas; Emily Owen, Houston, Texas; Andrew Owen (Rachel Owen), Palm Bay, Fla.; Ed Sebring (Cynthia Sebring), and Tom Sebring, San Diego, Calif.; Jay Sebring (Cathy Sebring) Broken Arrow; and 14 great-grandchildren Leola had a caretaker, Donna Abkeimeier, who was very special in Leola's eyes. Donna cared for Leola with much compassion and love for over ten years. No words can express the gratitude for all the years we had Donna's service and total dedication to Leola when it came to keeping her healthy and happy.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Pond Creek, with the Rev. Gary Lillie officiating. Interment follows at Pond Creek Cemetery.

Visitation is 6-7:30 p.m. today, March 16, 2017, at Wilson Funeral Home in Pond Creek.
