HALLIE "MERT" EVANS



The funeral for Hallie “Mert” Evans, 71, of Pond Creek, will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Pond Creek. The Revs. Dale Taylor, Mike Napier and Richard Awtrey will officiate. Burial will be in Pond Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek. Family visitation will be 6 to 8:30 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, Pond Creek.
He was born Aug. 5, 1935, in Nash to Conrad Russell and Elva Crain Evans and died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
He was raised and educated in Nash, graduating from Nash High School. He attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.
He married Eloise Overton March 9, 1963, in Pond Creek where he farmed and ranched. He was a member of Pond Creek-Hunter Young Farmers, FFA Alumni and was an honorary chapter farmer. He was a founding member of FSW Rural Water District, served on the fair board and played Santa Claus for the Chamber of Commerce for 25 years. He also was a member of First Baptist Church, Pond Creek.
Surviving are his wife, Eloise of the home in Pond Creek; three sons, Shannon Evans of Monte-zuma, Kan., Sheldon Evans of Udall, Kan., and Shayne Evans of Pond Creek; one brother, Conrad Evans of Stillwater; four sisters, Orrana Felix of Perryton, Texas, Kathleen Hayes of Moore, Ilus Overton of Pond Creek and Marilyn Foster of Nash.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Memorials may be made to Pond Creek Fire Department, Gideons, Caldwell Cowboy Church or the charity of donor’s choice.
