Mary Louise Brown: Wife, mother, business woman, was born Nov. 8, 1928, to Oscar and Clarice Howland, southwest of Pond Creek, Okla. She passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at Highland Park Manor in Enid, Okla.

She attended school in a one-room house, prior to attending Pond Creek High School, where she was a graduate of the class of 1946. She attended cosmetology school in Ark City, Kan.

She was a licensed beauty operator and owner for over 50 years. During the early years, she owned a beauty shop in Pond Creek in the late 1940s, which she sold after moving to Nash. She opened a new shop in Nash in the mid-1950s, which remained open until 2000, though she retained her both licenses until 2005.

In 1948, she met a young farmer from Nash named Rex Lee Brown. They were married March 27, 1949, spending 51 years together until his death April 8, 2000.

She was a member of the Christian Church of Nash, a founding member of Nash’s ONO Club, majority member of the Order of Rainbow for Girls in Pond Creek, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex, and newborn daughter; both her parents, Oscar Howland and Clarice Fuller Howland; and her sister, Donna (Mrs. Dan) Hamill.

She is survived by daughter, Rexene Plucker and husband Wayne of San Antonio, Texas; grandson, Terry Plucker and wife Amy; two great-grandsons, Alex and Nathan, all of Magnolia, Texas; and numerous nieces and cousins.

Visitation will be 2-3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at Nash Christian Church, with Rev. Richard Cravens officiating. Interment will follow in Pond Creek Cemetery. Arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek.

Memorials may be made to the Nash Fire Department and Nash Christian Church.
