Graveside services for William D Miller (Davy) of Ponca City will be held on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Vernon Cemetery with Chaplain Tom Howard officiating. Services are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service and Cremation Directors. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the United States Army.

Davy was born on September 4, 1934 in Perry, Oklahoma. He was the son of Jim and Hazel Hill Miller and passed away peacefully on April 21, 2016 at the age 81. He grew up around Perry and Tonkawa, Oklahoma, but because of his father’s occupation, the family moved around the state to different job locations. He attended high school at Pleasant Grove near Seminole, OK.

Davy enlisted in the Oklahoma National Guard 45th Infantry Division in 1953. He was stationed in Germany in the occupational army at Kaiserslautern Army Depot. In 1959, he enlisted in the army after serving in the 45th infantry for over five years. In February 1960, he was reassigned to Fitz Simmons in Colorado. He met Beverly Jean Montgomery on May 14 of that year and they were married 18 days later on June 1, 1960 just after midnight.

After Davy was honorably discharged on June 30, 1962, he moved back to Shawnee, Oklahoma in order to work for his father, Jim Miller. Later, he worked for his Uncle Brent Oden, then R.T. Nelson, and R.L. Frailey as a painter and sandblaster. During that time, the family moved around Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, and New Mexico. However, Davy purchased a family home in Tonkawa for times when he had to work at the company’s home office. In 1975, he started his own business, W.D. Miller Painting and Sandblasting Company in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. He was a well-respected businessman for the quality of his work and wiliness to please others.

In 2006, he fully retired allowing time for fishing and traveling in his motor home. He was not one to sit back and just relax though. Instead, he refurbished pop up tents, RV’s, and boats for his own use and to trade. Not only did he love to fish, but he liked to tell great fish stories of the one that got away. Tinkering in his shop and working in the yard were just a few of his favorite activities at home.

In 2007, Davy discovered Cowboy church on the RFD channel. Through the ministry of Russ Weaver, Davy learned more about his Lord and Savior. He loved to tell everyone about Cowboy church and desired to see one started in Ponca City.

William D Miller was preceded in death by his parents, James Jacob Miller and Hazel May Hill Miller, and one brother, Jimmy Miller.

Those who will miss him include his wife of almost 56 years, Beverly Jean Montgomery Miller. His three children, Freida May and Ron Goossen of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, James David and Dawn Miller of Perry, Oklahoma, William Dee and Angela Miller of Burleson, Texas. His grandchildren; Joshua Miller, Jessica Miller, Ashlee Miller, Audrey Miller, Josiah Goossen, Avery Miller. And one great-grandchild, Amara Miller.

He is survived by one sister, Ann Miller Freeman and her husband, J.L. and one brother, Terry Miller and his wife Sharon.
