ENID, Okla. — LAMONT — The funeral for Dorothy Irene (Heusel) Bobbitt, 93, will be 2 p.m. today, April 25, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, Lamont, with Rev. Scott Heusel and Rev. Vera Walton officiating. Interment in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Salt Fork, under direction of Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek. At her request, there will be no viewing.
She was born March 11, 1920, in Salt Fork to Chester A. and Clara Danford Heusel.
She attended Dayton Rural School and graduated from University Preparatory High School in Tonkawa. She went to UPS Jr. College (Tonkawa) and then graduated in 1941, with a B.S. degree from Central State Teachers College (Edmond).
Dorothy taught school for 32 years, starting in country schools, including Long Branch near Red Rock, Elkhorn near Garber, then Lamont and Deer Creek-Lamont Schools, retiring in 1982.
On Dec. 26, 1945, she married Ralph L. Bobbitt at the home of her parents. They lived and farmed east of Salt Fork until 1967, when they moved into Lamont. He preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 1998.
She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist (southeast of Salt Fork) until their membership transferred to the Lamont United Methodist Church in 1944. She was an active worker in the UMC Women’s group, numerous missions and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She was a member of the Willing Workers Extension Group, Pioneer Area Quilt Guild, Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority and Oklahoma Retired Educators Association.
She was an avid reader, talented hand-quilter, created all kinds of beautiful needlework and loved working crossword puzzles.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol Vincent and husband J.C. of Enid; three sons, John and wife Sheryl of Edmond, Mike and wife Cindy of Lamont, and Jerry Lanning and wife Monica of Ponca City; grandchildren, Kyle Vincent of Oklahoma City, Nicole Steuart and husband Adam of Enid, Rachel Bobbitt of Lubbock, Texas, and Ruth Inman and husband Trent of Stillwater; great-grandchildren, Avery, Fletcher and Daxon Inman; one brother, Gordon Heusel of Lamont; two sisters-in-law, Alice Heusel of Enid, and Verna Bobbitt of Tishomingo; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Chester Homer Heusel and Ralph Stanley Heusel, and three sisters, Hazel Heusel, Clarabelle Heusel and Edith Dunn.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Mt. Vernon Cemetery Association, Lamont Methodist Church or Hospice Circle of Love through the Funeral Home.
