Marjorie Pauline Burghardt was born November 19, 1920 southwest of Manchester, Oklahoma to Frank and Mae Potter. She passed away September 10, 1986 at the Community Health Center in Wakita.

Marjorie graduated from Northwestern State College, Alva, Oklahoma with a degree in Spanish and Music. She also received a life certificate in elementary education. She taught 18 years; 16 at Wakita public school and two years in Alfalfa County. In 1968 she was named "Grant County Teacher Of The Year."

On May 27, 1942, Marjorie was united in marriage with Charles Raymond Burghardt. To this union one son, Barry Ray was born. Barry died May 28, 1962. Raymond died February 1, 1973.

Marjorie was a member of the "Potter Trio" family singing group for many years. They at one time sang over the radio station KCRC at Enid, Oklahoma.

She was a member of the Wakita Christian Church where she served as pianist, then organist for some 35 years.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Community Health Center Auxiliary and made First Honorary Member of FHA. She was a past member of Oklahoma Education Association, National Education Association and Delta Kappa Gamma (an organization of women educators).

Marjorie Burghardt was honored as Wakita's "Woman of the Year" in 1982.

Services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday at the Wakita Christian Church with the Rev. Roger Stearns officiating. Interment was in Manchester Cemetery under direction of the Wakita Funeral Home, with Ray Rapp, Joe Seely, Alvin Jones, Frank Cromwell, Louis Hackney and Norvel Ronck serving as casket bearers. Honorary bearers were A. F. Misak, John Day Williams, Gilbert Ayers, and Herman Nachtigall.

Martha Thomas was organist and singers were Wilma Seely and Joan Lawrence.

Memorials may be made to the Wakita CHC or Wakita Christian Church.
