Lamont Cemetery


Lauren “Gene” Johnson died on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. A service was be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 27, 2023 at the First Christian Church in Blackwell. Rev. Jeff Koch officiated. Burial followed at the Lamont Cemetery, under the direction of Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
Lauren Eugene “Gene” Johnson was born in Blackwell, OK, August 19, 1945 to Lauren and LaVerna (Fauchier) Johnson. He was raised in Lamont, graduating from Lamont High School in 1963. He attended college before enlisting in the Army in 1966. Gene graduated from Officer Candidate School in Ft. Benning, GA in August of 1967 and married Vicki Campbell of Lamont later that month. They were stationed in Columbia, South Carolina when he was deployed to Vietnam. Upon his return he completed his Bachelor’s degree at Central State College and went on to attend the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Academy. He served as a Trooper until 1996 when he became Blackwell’s Chief of Police. He retired from the City of Blackwell in 2003.
Gene is survived by his wife Vicki, of the home; son, Jason and wife Cara Beth of Tonkawa, daughter, Mindy Tripp and her husband William of Blackwell, grandchildren, Jaci and Cason Johnson of Tonkawa and Anna and Evan Tripp of Blackwell; sisters, Marvis Soucek of Ponca City and Kathlyn Roberts and husband Sam of Edmond; sister-in-law Gayla Youngblood and her husband Paul and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents, Lauren and LaVerna Johnson.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church of Blackwell in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
