Lamont Cemetery


The funeral for James R. “Jim” Gaskill, 75, of Lamont, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Lamont. The Rev. Jeff McReynolds will officiate. Burial will be in Lamont Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek. The casket will remain closed after the service.

He was born Nov. 21, 1931, in Tyro, Kan., to Archie Aaron and Anna Maybelle Moore Gaskill and died Sunday, May 20, 2007, at Integris Bass Baptist Pavillion.

He was raised in Wann and graduated from high school in 1950. He joined the Air Force following graduation.

He married Janet Steddum Nov. 10, 1956, in Enid while he was stationed at Vance Air Force Base. He made his career in the Air Force, retiring Feb. 1, 1974. He was a 20-year volunteer firefighter and a member of Masonic Lodge A.F.&A.M.; of Lamont and First Christian Church of Lamont.

Surviving are his wife, Janet; two sons, Ken Gaskill of Deer Creek and Brian Gaskill of Sherman, Texas; three brothers, Wayne Gaskill of Woodland, Calif., Frank Gaskill of New Philadelphia, Ohio, and Ron Moore of Dixon, Calif.; two sisters, Evelyn Lucas of Bartlesville and Louise Woolam of Wann; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, lung division, or First Christian Church, Lamont.
