Melvin Rick Gossman

Funeral services for Melvin Rick Gossman, 89 year-old Yukon, Oklahoma resident, formerly of Weatherford, Oklahoma, will be held Monday, October 6, 2014, 10:00 A.M. in The Chapel of Lockstone Funeral Home with Harry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

Melvin was born February 17, 1925, in Carmi, Kansas to Rick and Iona (Wilks) Gossman and passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at home in Yukon, Oklahoma. Melvin was raised on a farm and attended school in Stafford and Preston, Kansas. In September 1945, he married Jessie Thomas and made their home in Stafford, Kansas. Melvin worked for Amoco Production for 35 years before he retired in 1983. They traveled for 3 years and settled in Weatherford in 1986. Jessie passed away in 1994. On September 6, 1996, he married Rhowene (Bentley) McCarthey and made their home in Weatherford and in 2012 they moved to Yukon, Oklahoma. Melvin enjoyed traveling, playing cards, dancing, hunting, and fishing.

Melvin is survived by Rhowena Bentley of their home in Yukon, Oklahoma; one son, Dale Gossman and wife, Allene of Gainesville, Georgia; two sisters, Deana Von Keesling of Hutchison, Kansas and Karen Sprecher of Wichita, Kansas; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, Delbert and Marlin; one sister, Iona Willa Jean; and one son, Dean Gossman.
