Services for Alvin "Al" Richard Freeman, 78, of the Shady Dale community will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 28 at the Marietta Church of Christ with Pastor Chase Green officiating and John Hobbs assisting. Interment will follow in the McAlister Cemetery, Overbrook.

Born May 6, 1943 at Marietta, the son of Sylvan and Clotilda Adair Freeman, he died Monday, May 24, 2021.

Al graduated from Marietta High School with the Class of 1961. He married the love of his life, Linda Kay Cox on August 2, 1963 in Ardmore. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2016. Al and Linda moved to Bell, California where he worked in the steel industry as a welder. Later they moved to Grand Prairie, Texas where he owned/operated an HVAC business. In 1984, they relocated to the Shady Dale community. In 1986, Al started working for Marietta Public Schools. He worked there for 30+ years as the head of Maintenance. He also worked on IT and as a bus driver. He oversaw several construction projects including the Marietta Softball Field and the Elementary School. Al was known as the "go to" guy when you had questions. He enjoyed painting, gardening, fishing and was a member of the Desert Foxes dirt bike club in southern California.

Preceding him in death was his wife, parents, and sister, Jayne Walker.

Survivors include his daughters, Lisa Radell and husband Roger of Prague and Kathy Brawley and husband Raymond of Wilson; brother, Bill Freeman and wife Rae of Marietta; sister, Sylvia McDaniel and husband Bobby of Callisburg, Texas; brother-in-law, J.D. Walker of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Joann Stinson and husband Bobby of Texas; grandchildren, D.J. Kretzchmar and wife Caitlin, Hannah Prewitt and husband Skyler, Sarah Radell, and Jonathan Radell; great-grandchildren, Alvin, Addie, Emma, Kyser, Kyler and Kayden; special friend, Debbie Davis of Marietta; and best friend and cousin, Preston McGehee of Marietta.

Serving as pallbearers will be Preston McGehee, Gregg McGehee, Jonathan Radell, D.J. Kretzchmar, Butch Shellenberger, and Skyler Prewitt. Honorary bearers are Allen Woody, John Hobbs, John Thompson, Danny Frazier, Vance Parr, Finley Morgan, and Gary Labeth.
