Graveside services with military honors for Robert O’dell Bowden, 83, were held at McAlister Cemetery, Overbrook, June 6, 2014, following his death June 1 at his home in Moore. Reverend Wayne Fite officiated.

Born May 15, 1931 in Frogville to Ruben and Annie Lee Williams Bowden, he grew up in the Oswalt, Overbrook and Ardmore areas and graduated from Greenville High School in 1950.

Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 and was stationed in the DMZ of Korea at the end of the Korean War. He was in the 1st Calvary Division. Following his Army tenure he devoted his life career as an independent welder. His welding experiences took him to offshore drilling sites as well as Capetown, South Africa, Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico. He taught many others how to weld. Of the Baptist faith, he dedicated his life at an early age. He was a proud member of the Native American Choctaw tribe through his mother’s heritage.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ruben and Annie Lee Bowden; sister-in-law, Sheran Bowden; brothers-in-law, George Cullum, Walon Dare Holt and Okie Phillips; niece, Anita Holt; great-nephew, Brad Holt; and uncles, Buck Williams and Tom Williams.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Robin “Missy” Osborn and husband Terry of Moore; son, Carl Todd “Butch” Hamilton of Johnston City, Tennessee; stepsons, David (Lou Ann) Lively of Durant and Terry (Dawn) Womack of Tuttle; brothers, Bill (Darlene) Bowden, Bob Bowden and Charles (Marcia) Bowden of Ardmore and Jim (Frankie) Bowden of Choctaw; sisters, Gladys Holt of Stillwater, Novella (Bill) Shebester of Madill, Jean Cullum of Mead, Alta (JB) Mapp of Ardmore and Paula Phillips of Atlanta; granddaughters, Karley Osborn and Blaklyn Lively; grandsons, Zack Lively, Carson Osborn and Caulyn Osborn; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
