LaWanda Johnson, 67, of Boswell, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, at her residence. Services are at 2 p.m. tuesday at Crystal Baptist Church with Rev. Glenn Cook and Rev. Tim Harless officiating.

She was born Feb. 23, 1940, in Atoka County, the daughter of Joe and Effie (Steer) Payne. She lived in this area all her life and raised five children. She was an exellent cook, continually feeding numerous children and half the neighborhood; she also cooked the community-wide fish fries. She worked as a caregiver, taking care of everyone else before herself. She would give the shirt off her back if you needed it more than her. She worked as a seamstress for many years sewing pageant, wedding, and prom dresses for more than 22 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob; brother; Junior Payne; baby girl and baby boy Eddy Springer.

Surviving relatives include sons, Johnny Honeycutt and Billy "Buck" Honeycutt, both of Boswell; daughters, Raylana Ashford and husband Ben, Bennie McKee, and Brenda Thompson and husband Ted, all of Boswell; brothers and sisters-in-law, L.T. and Mattie Payne of New Mexico, Harold and Avis Payne of Redding, Calif., Elige Payne of Hugo, Cotton Payne of Harmony, Mack and Carolyn Payne of North Pole, Alaska; sister, Laverna Rassimason of Modesto, Calif; 14 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Interment will be at Butler Cemetery, Lane. Services are under the direction of Mt. Olive Funeral Home, Hugo.
