Drake - Nebo Cemetery

Murray County, Oklahoma

© Dennis Muncrief

The Drake-Nebo cemetery is located south of Sulphur, Ok, off Highway 177. Go 6 miles south to the Drake Baptist Church. Turn west on Goddard Road for 1 mile, then south 1 1/2 miles, then west 1/4 mile.
This registry was completed on Sep 28, 2001. There are many unknown graves. There are also many graves that have only a native stone or a concrete block as a marker.
This Cemetery contains the family of Cyrus Harris, the first Governor of the Chickasaw Nation, I.T. Cyrus Harris' own Indian allotment was south of Sulphur 6 miles and east 3 miles.
Also interred here is the Williams family (*) that was killed by a tornado in 1917. Descendents of the family recently erected a large monument. If memory serves me right, there were two other children that were not killed because they were visiting at a neighbors house when the tornado hit.
